Do you have a favorite place to visit nearby? Some place that holds special memories for you? Maybe it's a state park with hiking trails, or a mountain cabin or beach house, or a quaint bed and breakfast in your hometown.
About 90 minutes from where we live is a 2500-acre beauty wonderland called Callaway Gardens. Through the years, Callaway Gardens has been the scene of many fond memories for me:
- A summer vacation in high school with two close friends.
- Three summer overnight girls' trips with my sister and our little girls.
- My parents’ 50th wedding anniversary/vow renewal ceremony one November.
- And for the last three years, a weekend in February when my husband, Mart, teaches a workshop he designed on goals and priorities called Attentional Living.
This past weekend was Mart’s workshop. I brought along a freelance writing project so I worked, too, while also enjoying the delicious food and peaceful environment.
Whenever I find myself at Callaway Gardens, I think about all the special times I’ve had at this beautiful place. And I thought I would share some photos with you.
NOTE: Most of our recent trips to Callaway were during February, which is a "quiet" season at Callaway. These photos don't show the spectacular spring and summer flowers and trees, some of which will start blooming in just a few weeks. (Do yourself a favor: go to Callaway's website and feast your eyes.)
But Callaway Gardens is beautiful year-round, and it's always summer in the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center. So, here are a few of my favorite scenes.
