We’ve been friends for about ten years now. She’s a busy wife and mom of two young ones. And even though she only lives a few miles away, she often makes time to send some fun to my mailbox.
She seems to know what kind of card I will like, and often her sense of humor shines through in the cheerful message she puts inside.
Like this.
This card, with its quote and colorful fall leaves, has Glimsen written all over it.
I’ve written before about the beauty and value of sending hand-written notes and cards (here and here). So much of our communication now is temporary and disposable—texts, email, social media posts, etc. When we take the time and the effort to literally write to someone, we are saying in a small way that they are worth the effort. It can encourage them and us as well.
Holding a card or note in my hand, knowing that it came from someone special, makes me want to hold onto it. I have a large stash of cards sent to me through the years.
A big handful of them are from this friend who picks up her pen and writes down some good words that land in my mailbox and make me smile.
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24
Is there someone you can encourage today?
