I like making lists, so in honor of the new season, I’m sharing my list of summer fun and beauty between the bookends of Memorial Day and Labor Day. Take a look and see what you would add.

Memorial Day

School’s out!

Hello, summer!

Sunshine starts early and stretches long into the evening

Temperatures so hot your glasses steam up, your ice cream melts, your legs stick to the car seat

Morning walks before the sun gets too high

Morning music from the birds

Sitting in the sun

Sitting in the shade

Sunscreen, sunglasses, sunburn

Hot

Humidity hair

Tee shirts and shorts

Flip flops and sandals

Vacations and staycations

The ocean, the river, the lake, the pool

Berries: straw, blue, black, and rasp-

Sunflowers, daisies, hydrangeas, and more

So hot

American flags

Parades and fireworks

Baseball

Cook-outs

Hot dogs and hamburgers

Lemonade, watermelon, popsicles

On the deck with friends from dusk til dark

So very hot

A drought or a drenching

Afternoon thunderstorms

The color of the season: green

Butterflies and fireflies

Pesky pests, bug spray

Then, the countdown—

July gives way to August

Back to school!

Labor Day and

Good-bye, summer!
