NOTE: Apparently my shopkeeper is still on holiday. The cards are available now, even though the shop says they are coming soon. Sorry about that! Message me or email me if you'd like some, and we will work it out. I'll even throw in a little freebie for your trouble. The other Glimsen cards are also available and they make great gifts or stocking stuffers. Thanks for your support!
With tables set with Thanksgiving decor and plates loaded with our family’s favorite foods, Thanksgiving would have seemed almost as traditional as any other year, except that we gathered in the garage. We were socially distanced and masked, and although we missed two family members who couldn’t be there, we still got caught up with each other, laughed, and ate our fill and then some.
Warm sunlight streamed in through the two windows and brightened up the room. With the garage doors open, we had a wide view of the side yard and a few trees still holding onto autumn colors. It was the kind of warm and sunny fall afternoon that memories are made of.
It was a Thanksgiving I’ll always remember, not just because it was so different but because it was so good—so good to be together when it’s hard to be as connected as we’d like.
Staying connected has been challenging this year for sure, but one tried and true way to reach out is still possible, even easy: sending greetings to family and friends through the mail. The notes I’ve received this year have meant so much. I hope the ones I’ve sent have had the same impact on those who’ve received them.
You may or may not be planning to send Christmas greetings this year, and you may have already stocked up on your cards, but if not, I’m offering a new Glimsen card in the shop. I think it’s stunning, with art that reminds me so much of our holly bushes, already loaded with bright red berries just waiting to feed the birds this winter.
The red “joy” on the front and the scripture verse on the back offer us a chance to focus on the meaning of Christmas—that God’s Son, Jesus, came into the world to save us: to make us and all things new, to make right everything that’s wrong, and to give us a life everlasting that satisfies every longing we’ve ever had. That’s why the word “joy” fits on this card this year and any year. Because the message of Christmas is always true, regardless of what is happening in the world around us.
So, whether you use these cards or not, let me encourage you to remind your friends and family to find joy this Christmas season. If you do, it just might turn out to be a Christmas you’ll always remember, not just because it was so different but because it was so good.
