Have you ever received a note or letter in your mailbox that meant a lot to you?
I have. In the age of mass and often meaningless communication, nothing beats opening your mailbox and pulling out an envelope with a note inside written by a real person.
A warm smile and a cheery comment can make someone’s day, but written words—an investment of the sender’s time, however small the amount—can cheer up a person again and again. In The Fragrance of Kindness, Cheri Fuller said, “Letters have the magical capacity to encourage—not once, or twice, but as many times as the recipient pulls out the faded paper the words are written on and rereads them.”
The words have the power to go on encouraging—giving hope and spurring on—long after the person who wrote them has forgotten.
For years, I’ve enjoyed sending cards to others with a few words of encouragement inside. When the coronavirus reached a crisis here, I decided to step up my practice of writing notes in an effort to encourage others. The messages have ranged from simple, such as “I’m thinking of you”, to newsy, with the latest update at our house.
Notecards bring together three loves of mine: beauty, encouragement, and really good pens. Through the years, whenever I found myself in paper stores, museum shops, and even drug stores, I could hardly resist checking out the stationary aisle and coming home with a box of something new.
All of that said, I have an announcement to make.
I now have my own box of something new…
A line of Glimsen note cards.
These are the first two designs.
More designs are coming, including one for Christmas that I will reveal later.
Each card is blank inside with the Glimsen logo on the back.
Here’s the pricing:
one pack of 5 cards (plus envelopes) = $8, plus $2 shipping
I hope you like them and that you’ll celebrate with me! If you’ve enjoyed Glimsen through the years, this is a great way to support this blog and enjoy a bit of beauty for yourself before sending it along to someone else.
If you’re interested in ordering some, email me at glimsenblog@gmail dot com. The cards are not up on the site just yet, so until then, I can take a check, PayPal, or Venmo.
To encourage someone else, though, you don’t need a Glimsen card. Any card or piece of paper will do. All it takes are a few words to lift someone else’s spirits.
And yours too.
