Transitions. They are a natural part of life.
My last major period of transition resulted in me starting this blog. So, I guess you could say that something beautiful came out of that time in my life. Many other things did too, and I'm so grateful for that.
I'm in a time of change right now.
Transitions are often disruptive and hard because of the change that accompanies them, but they are also often good. They're a natural part of life. And they always get my attention.
I ask things like, where am I? What path am I on? I spend time praying, writing, and talking to my husband, Mart, and other loved ones.
Because I am a follower of Jesus, my life has purpose and meaning. I know where my path ultimately leads: life with Him in heaven forever. While I'm here, I want to make sure that my life points to Him.
In times of transition, I look at all the areas of my life: relational, professional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, etc. Where will my current path in this area take me? Do I need to change anything?
Another good question during transitions is one I learned from Michael Hyatt: What does this make possible?
This year I've been asking, what does being an empty-nester make possible in my life? I've been dreaming about what that might look like and getting excited.
Of course, we don't have to wait until major transitions to ask ourselves questions like this. Mart often does regular check-ins to make sure he is working toward his goals for his life. Doing that can help make transitions a little more seamless.
But anytime is a good time to examine the path our lives are taking. And to look for the beauty along the way.
