The winter landscape can at times seem rather bleak and dull. Compared to other seasons, winter doesn’t produce a lot of color or new or interesting scenes. Nature seems to be asleep.
But when I pay attention, I am often surprised by unexpected beauty in the winter, such as:
Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, like this pink and purple masterpiece one evening last week.
The muted black, white, and gray of a quiet, rainy morning in January.
Shockingly-bright pink camellia blossoms, especially on an overcast day.
Small Lenten roses, bowing their purple heads.
Eastern bluebirds, small and busy, flashes of brilliant blue against brown and grey branches.
And our new golden-eyed, rust-colored best friend who loves to be out in the winter landscape.
Beauty like this makes me love winter, even when my teeth are chattering, and reminds me that every season of life has Beauty if we look for it. And I’m so grateful.
