“Want to walk with me?” I ask my husband most evenings as we finish dinner. He checks the weather app for thunderstorms while we start clearing the table. A few minutes later, I’m putting on shoes and sunscreen while he waits for me on the porch.
Currently, my favorite exercise is walking in our neighborhood. We live in an old suburban subdivision with houses from the 60s and almost every decade since. The roads are wide, the yards large, and the trees mature. Most days, I see neighbors, their dogs, and two or three deer or the occasional rabbit. For years, I preferred to work out in our basement or at a gym, but now I’d rather be outside. It clears my head, helps me relax, and enlarges my perspective.
This past Monday was National Photography Day, so I encouraged you to post photos of the beauty around you this week. Because it has been in the 90s here, I’ve been walking in the morning just after the sun shows itself, before its heat rises. I thought I’d share with you what I saw on four different walks on the same route. Maybe these simple shots will inspire you to get out, take a walk, and take a photo of the beauty you see.
Brilliant color beside a mailbox.
A mini double rainbow gracing a sprinkler’s spray.
Early fallen leaves shiny with water.
When can you take a walk this week?
