Through these last five years of finding beauty at Glimsen, I’ve captured several different images of beauty with flags. These pictures represent places I have either spent July 4th or visited at other times of the year—from a loved one's front porch, to a favorite small town, and on to Savannah, Virginia, and even Italy.
Every photo represents a special moment with special people.
When I think about this country, I am grateful for the principles upon which it was founded, although the men who founded it were as flawed as the rest of us.
I am grateful for the dream of what it could be and for the best of what it is.
I am also thankful for the people. People who love others well, who make life better for others on a personal level, often in small, quiet ways, who support and encourage those around them.
Wow, am I grateful for those people, and I want to be more like that.
As I share these photos with you, surely it goes without saying that I do not worship the flag or this country. I worship the God whose goodness, truth, beauty, and grace are evident everywhere if our eyes are open to it.
I do not deny that we have problems aplenty in the US. But oh, I am so grateful to live here, among people like you, and I would not want to live anywhere else.
